Google Talk

Posted by Gypsy on Aug 24, 2005

If I could only use one web site for the rest of my life, it would be Google. Not satisfied with having an amazing search engine, awesome (and free) email program with massive storage, map program, Google Suggest, Google Ride Finder, personalized search, Google Desktop and so much more than I feel like listing, but now they have a IM/VoIP application.

Because Google Talk is still in Beta form (and probably will be for awhile), users must have a Gmail account. Gmail is by invitation only, but I have a hundred of those, so drop your email address in the comments and I’ll send it to you.

I haven’t had a lot of time to play with it, but from my initial glance, it seems like a great program.

There is only one downside that I’ve discovered, which is Google Talk is only fully compatible with Windows 2000/XP. But don’t worry, my fellow Mac lovers, it is compatible with iChat. And, just to cover my bases, for those of you using Linux, it is also compatible with GAIM and Psi. And if you aren’t using Windows, the VoIP isn’t usable.

If you see me there, drop me a hello. Anyone who needs my screen name, just leave a note in the comments. Though like I said, it’s the same as your Gmail name.
