From hot redhead to blue-haired grandma

Posted by Gypsy on Sep 21, 2005

Recently one of my girlfriends decided to dye her hair. The thing is, Vee has the kind of red hair other people would die for (as opposed to Carrot Top’s color). And, because it’s long and curly (naturally, of course), her hair is the envy of many women.

I was at her house Friday to hang out when she hands me a L’Oriel home dye kit with a photo on it of a woman who obviously doesn’t dye her hair at home. The woman has gorgeous long auburn hair. Now, I’m not going to say ‘I told her so’…Well, actually I am, because I told her not to do it and she’d regret it.

This is where we fast forward to Monday morning. I come in to work and get an e-mail from Vee. Just one line of text saying,OMG I dyed my hair! Help! How scarey I look!” (Text color reflects actual hair color.) It had to be bad for her to resort to spelling and grammar mistakes.

Being the wonderful friend I am, I hop in the car to drive to her office to see. The horror I witnessed was so shocking that tact flew right out the window. “You look like a 40-year-old trying to pass for 20.” Poor girl. She went from looking like a 25-year-old to looking like a 50-year-old overnight (when in actuality she’s 38).

Needless to say, we will be making a trip to the wonderful wizard of hair color this weekend to do some damage control. And on the brightside, if we can’t fix it, we can just shave it off and wait until it grows back.
