One month down, six more to go

Posted by Gypsy on Oct 11, 2005

So Hubby has now been gone for a month. Lucky for me, I’ve been very busy this month with work, which made it fly by pretty fast.

I’ve also been extra lucky because he’s been able to email me daily and call me at least twice a week.

When I talk to him, he says he’s doing good. Where he’s at is one of the more dangerous places to be if you are in the military, but so far he’s been safe and unharmed.

While there, he’s been doing some writing and his unit is also putting out a newsletter. He also has had a lot of opportunities to meet a lot of Iraqi officials and escort civilian media. Much of what he’s learning while there will help him later in his career, whether he stays in the military of ventures off into the civilian world.

Even though he says he doesn’t need anything, I know he could use some pieces of home. In addition to that, the food where he is sucks, so any non-perishable food would be much appreciated. Just contact me if you need an address to send it to.

Bye bye Lois Lane, hello Perry White

Life can always be connected to a comic book. In my office we have Superman, minus the Man of Steel. We have a Clark Kent (OCD), Lois Lane (myself), Perry White (Gomer) and a trio of Jimmy Olsens (the Privates).

For the next three weeks, I’m getting the chance to jump into the Perry role while Gomer joins the Privates (he doesn’t have the legs for Lois).

This is an opportunity I’ve been waiting two years for. When I was in journalism school, the one facet of my job that I just clicked with was the editor’s job. Copy editing, layout, design and organization have are my strong points and I finally have the chance to prove I’m more than a cute girl in camouflage and combat boots.

Today, my first day as editor, was the first day I’ve gone to work, worked my ass off, and came home stress free. If my job could always be like this, I would definitely do 20 years in the military.

Of course, this means I’m going to be extremely busy all the time at work, which means I won’t be able to post more. But at least when I do post, it’ll be a lot more positive.

I’ve got a lot more responsibility being put on me, but I think I can handle it.
