Cincy smells like caramel

Posted by Gypsy on Jan 19, 2006

Ok, so finally I’m getting around to writing about my fun weekend in Ohio. It was a wonderful weekend and so relaxing. I haven’t slept that good in forever. A few highlights from the weekend:

I finally got to meet my lovely niece, Allana Lyn. She’s the cutest baby ever. She’s only 7 pounds and doesn’t really do anything but eat, cry and look pretty, but that’s ok because in another year or so everyone is going to wish she was so still. She does smile a bunch, though. Especially at her Grandpa Jim, which has cemented his place wrapped firmly around her little finger. It’s so cute.

My birthday was over the weekend, too, which led to an exciting day at the tattoo shop. We went to ShadoWorks in Amelia, OH, where my mother-in-law (from now on known as Penny), sister-in-law (Molly) and I all got tattooed (all pictures can be found under the “My Photos” link). It was Molly’s first one, so of course we made her go first. She was pretty scared, but quickly realized it wasn’t anything to freak out about. Next went me, which I will admit did hurt as he was doing the inside of my wrist. Mom was last, but definitely not least. It was definitely a great birthday.

Molly, J.C. (my brother-in-law) and I met up with one of Jeremy’s friends Saturday night for a couple drinks. Not much to tell as we all just sat around drinking beer and bullshitting.

Molly and J.C. live right near a Jim Beam distillery, so all weekend all I smelt was the sweet smell of alcohol being made. It was yummy. Almost makes me want to live there. But then it would get cold out and I’d realize why I like SoCal.

And now for the lowlight:

The airline lost my fucking luggage. Most of the items are replaceable, but not without an assload of money being spent (because three days later they still haven’t found it). I estimate about $200-$300 to replace everything in that bag because in there was my Accounting textbook, computer charger, phone charger, some clothes, a PSP movie, a blanket my mother made me, countless hair products and a few other minor things. I’m pissed to say the least. They better reimburse me for everything that was in that bag. I’ve already ordered a new book, but that won’t make up for the two weeks behind that I’m going to get in my class. And the computer charger is $80, so I haven’t bought that yet. Yeah, I’m still pretty pissed three days later.

But it’s ok. I still had a wonderful time this past weekend and can’t wait to come back to Ohio to visit. And maybe next time I’ll even bring Jeremy with me, although I have no idea why anyone there would want to see him.*

* That was sarcasm, dear.

Ok, I just posted photos from this weekend to my Flickr account to keep you all occupied until I can write a real post about this weekend. So click the link to the right and take a peek. And remember, you can comment on them.

More to come within the next day or so.

Peace out.

The year in cities and I’m out

Following kottke’s example, here is my 2005 in cities. It’s not nearly as interesting as his since I haven’t taken any internatinal vacations, but it’s all in good fun.

Las Vegas, NV *
Hollywood, CA *
Los Angeles, CA *
Burbank, CA *
Oceanside, CA
Rochester, NY
Cincinnati, OH
Modesto, CA
Baltimore, MD

Ok, so not interesting at all. Although maybe next year’s will be better.

* denotes visits to that city on multiple occasions

In other news, I’m off to Ohio tonight for the weekend to visit family and see my new niece. It should be a great time and I will probably come home with some new artwork as well as awesome memories. Hopefully, I’ll also come back recharged and destressed. I need some time away from California and work.

I think I just filled the cup

So, my favorite CEO, Steve Jobs, gave his keynote speech today at the opening of Mac World San Francisco and introduced the world to what would be the best birthday present EVER!!!! (Hint hint: only 4 more days away).

That’s right, he announced the MacBook Pro, Apple’s first laptop using the Intel Core Duo processor (instead of the Power PC they previously used.

So if anyone needs birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s, Daughter’s Day, Flag Day, etc. ideas for a gift for me, I really, really, really, really want this. Even donations towards purchasing my own would be much appreciated.

Thank you and have a nice day.
