Vulgarthon recap

Posted by Gypsy on Jun 2, 2006

The last three days have been busy busy busy. I still haven’t gotten on East Coast time and at this point it’s pointless as I’m leaving in less than 48 hours. I’ve had such an amazing time with everyone and while I’m sorry to see it end, it will be nice to get more than 5 hours sleep and go to bed before the sun comes up.

Vulgarthon was amazing. Of the 5 movies that played, I only sat through two of them, but I still had a phenomenal time. The first secret movie was Catch and Release. It was amazing to see Kevin Smith with a large role in a movie he didn’t write. He was great and the part was perfect for him. Susannah Grant, the writer and director, was there to chat after the flick. She said she’s planning on reshooting the ending, though I think the one it had was great. The second secret movie was Clerks II. It was just as amazing and funny this time as the first time I saw it. I can’t wait until July when I can see it again. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this movie. The only other movie I caught some of was the Jersey Girl Extended Cut. Most of the added footage is in the first 40 minutes or so, but it brings the movie from amazing to a level where there are no words to describe it. Ben Affleck’s performance in the scene after his character’s wife dies breaks my heart every time. Some may say he went over the top on that and I heard some laughter (which made me angry to no end), but those people clearly haven’t experienced true grief on that level. My only hope is they never do because that’s the type of grief that changes a person.

The rest of the day was spent mingling with various other board members and just enjoying the beautiful weather. I can’t wait until the next Thon, though it looks like it’ll be two years before it happens again.

The rest of that last few days were spent between the gig at Ashes, the gig at Asbury Park and partying in the hotel rooms and lobby of the hotel. It was great to see everyone and I can’t wait to see everyone again. Tons of photos have been posted to my Flickr account, the link can be found in my links. It’s been so great seeing people I haven’t seen since February, meeting people I’ve been talking to for a long time and meeting new people. The festivities have winded down as people are starting to leave town and go back to their normal lives. I will be headed home myself on Sunday and look forward to spending my last couple days here relaxing and spending time with my fellow stragglers.

Finally, I just want to say thank you to Ming for putting this whole thing together. I know it must’ve been hard work, but it was much appreciated. I can’t wait until we can all do it again. Oh, and Ming, get your ass out to LA for a visit and make sure you call me.

That was a very nice recap. I agree with the Jersey Girl comments, It’s a movie I have loved since the first time I saw it, but the extended cut just takes it to another level.
I going to check out the pictures. I only took a few as I don’t like to bother people. I know most people wouldn’t have a problem posing or snapping a picture, but I knew there was plenty of other pictures from other people for me to see.
It was great to meet you. Have a safe trip home.

You are a treasure…I love this new site too. Thanks for spending almost all your time with me at Vulgarthon, I just knew how wonderful you are from the first moment we talked. I know we’ll be friends for a
long time to come.
