Morning at the office

Freedom!

January always tends to be a liberating month as people use the new year to free themselves of bad habits and other things in their lives. But for me, January is coming with some added freedoms.
First off, yesterday I found out that I can start out-processing from the Army on Tuesday. I’m not sure how many days they give me to outprocess, either 5 or 10, but within the next couple weeks I’ll officially be out of the Army. Of course, that means I’ll be jobless, but the Army is giving me a small severance and I can collect unemployment until March when I move to San Diego and can get a real job.
Also, today my divorce is final. This afternoon I’m going to Social Security to change my name and then on Monday I have to go to the DMV to get my new driver’s license. I actually spoke to Jeremy the other day and it sounds like things are going really good for him back in Ohio. And things are going great for me. So while getting divorced sucks, it really has turned out for the best for both of us.
So you would think with all this freedom upon me, I’d be able to breathe a little easier. Unfortunately, my lungs have also caught the freedom bug and are trying to escape from my chest in the form of Bronchitis. I’ve been coughing since last Friday with no end in sight. I’m on so many drugs to kill the virus and supress the cold that I’m not completely sure exactly what I’m typing right now or where I’m typing it from. Hopefully after another few days of rest I’ll be better. But if not, does anyone have an extra lung I can borrow?
That’s my Senator

Rarely do I discuss politics on my blog. I realize this is a volatile subject and many somehow this liberal Democrat has mostly Republican friends. But today I feel I must be political for a minute because something I have been looking forward to for awhile now has happened. In not-so-shocking news, Senator Hillary Clinton, of my home state of New York, has announced she is starting an exploratory committee in her bid to become our next President of the United States.
Women my age and in the generation behind me are hard-pressed to find decent female role models. Everytime I turn around, I see teenage girls idolizing the Brittney Spears and Fergies of the world instead of real women such as Condelezza Rice (who I’m not a fan of) and Hillary Clinton, my personal role model. These two very different women have something in common: they are making strides and being successful in a man’s world.
In a statement on her Web site, Senator Clinton stated:
“Only a new president can renew the promise of America — the idea that if you work hard you can count on the health care, education, and retirement security that you need to raise your family. These are the basic values of America that are under attack from this administration every day.
And only a new president can regain America’s position as a respected leader in the world.
I believe that change is coming November 4, 2008. And I am forming my exploratory committee because I believe that together we can bring the leadership that this country needs.
This is a big election with some very big questions. How do we bring the war in Iraq to the right end? How can we make sure every American has access to adequate health care? How will we ensure our children inherit a clean environment and energy independence? How can we reduce the deficits that threaten Social Security and Medicare?”
Senator Clinton is looking for support, and to show mine, I’ve placed a link to her Web site in my links to the left of this post.
Personally, I think it’s time for this country to get behind a female president. Unfortunately, citizens may not be ready for that, which is a shame. I hope she can make it all the way to the top, and until it’s not longer and option I will be cheering her on. Our country needs a woman like Senator Clinton in office. And the girls of this country need to see that if we put our mind to it, we really can do anything.
Where have all the single girls gone?

Since I got married more than three years ago, I’ve always been the married one. For the most part, all my girlfriends were single. Which was kinda crappy as sometimes I wished I could be as free as them and always awkward because your lives are so different. Yet somehow, with me 5 days away from my divorce being final, suddenly, I’m the only one who’s not married. Yes, I’m in a relationship, but it’s not the same. My last single girlfriend here just up and got married earlier this week. And while I’m very happy for her, again, I’m the odd girl out. Though if anyone thinks I’m getting married again anytime soon, they are crazy or on drugs.
Regardless of me ranting on being the last single girl, I do want to say congratulations to Kerri and Kiely. I hope you two have a long and happy life together.
